Glastonbury line-up 2024 – female legend headliner and big star drop-out
Glastonbury 2024 will have a bumper line-up of headliners following the longest wait for an announcement in over 20 years.
The iconic festival received rave reviews last year despite being hit with criticism as all four headliners – Arctic Monkeys, Guns N' Roses and Elton John, with Yusuf / Cat Stevens performing in the Legends slot – were male. Co-organiser Emily Eavis previously spoke out to address the criticism revealing that securing a female headliner was "top of my list".
Dua Lipa and Coldplay have both been heavily rumoured as this year's headliners but there's been no confirmation from Worthy Farm. Glastonbury fans have faced the longest wait for a headliner announcement in 20 years and ticket holders are increasingly growing restless.
The festival has developed a habit in previous years of dropping a few big names early on in the year but this time it's been radio silence from the iconic festival. Here's everything we know about the festival and the line-up announcement...

Glastonbury fans are convinced there won't be too much more of wait before the line-up is finally announced. Ticket holders are used to having to wait for the full line-up, but the festival often releases a few big names before unveiling the majority of the billing.

However, this year the festival appears to have decided against teasing fans with a smaller announcement and will likely wait until March before unveiling the full line-up. Last year and in 2022, the line-up was announced on the first Friday of March and it seems this will happen for a third year in a row.
This year festival-goers will be hoping 2024 follows suit despite it bucking the trend when it comes to pre-line-up announcements. Elton John was revealed as a 2023 line-up in December 2022 while Billie Elish was confirmed as a 2022 headliner in October 2021.
Organiser Emily told Annie Mac and Nick Grimshaw last year that she was looking to announce the line-up slightly differently this year. "Sometimes we’ll do something before Christmas, but what I’m really hoping for is to just announce the full line-up at the beginning of the year," she said on the Sidetracked podcast.

Last year, Emily appeared to confirm at least one female headliner before sharing her wish for two female headliners across the weekend. She said: “I’ve always been really passionate about gender split [on festival lineups] and I think, actually, our problem was that I’d been so outspoken about it that having a year when there wasn’t a female sent people a bit mad - or some people.
"And we did have a female - she pulled out and we replaced them with Guns N’ Roses. But everyone knows that it’s top of my list. It is difficult with female artists because there aren’t enough headliners. But we’re also creating them. We’re putting the bands and female artists on smaller stages and bringing them through all the time. And who knows? Next year we might get two. And certainly, I can say that the legend is female.”
Shania Twain previously revealed that the Glastonbury legend's slot is on her "wish list". She said: “It’s on my wish list – absolutely. So I’ll make sure I do that. It’s a legendary thing, I know, but it’s on my wish list."
Emily also previously revealed she'd been offered a "really big American artist", which many suspected was Madonna. However, the latest reports suggest talks have broken down between the icon and Worthy Farm.
It's been rumoured Stevie Wonder could be taking her place on the line-up, with the global artist having last performed at the festival in 2010. The Killers, Foo Fighters, Bruce Springsteen, Coldplay and Dua Lipa have all been rumoured as potentially 2024 performers.
How can you get Glastonbury 2024 tickets?
Tickets for the festival have now sold out however, there is a resale in April of any returned tickets. The resale will once again be held over two days, with one resale for tickets plus coach travel and a second resale for standalone tickets. Tickets cost £355 plus booking fee.
If you miss out on a chance to buy tickets or would like to attend the festival without paying the bumper fee, there are plenty of volunteering opportunities. Charities such as WaterAid, Oxfam and Greenpeace all offer tickets in exchange for working shifts across the weekend.

Glastonbury 2024 will take place at Worthy Farm Somerset from Wednesday 26 June until Sunday 30 June. For those who don't get a chance to attend, the BBC will broadcaster coverage across the weekend.
