A property viewing on A Place In The Sun ground to a halt when the couple looking for their dream home so a ghastly problem.

The long-running Channel 4 show - which is now in its 24th year - aired on Wednesday with a Scottish couple looking for a dream holiday home in Spain. Property expert Ben Hillman was on hand to help Joan and Andrew from Stirlingshire find somewhere to buy that could be enjoyed by their whole family.

The pair had a budget of £80,000 and Ben helped them scour Spain's Costa Calida to uncover the perfect property. But one of the three properties proved to be a disaster - as a huge area of damp was uncovered in the living room area.

Viewers watched Ben show Joan and Andrew five property offerings - with the hope that one of them would tick all their boxes. The second home they were shown, which was located in Los Puertos, was on the market for £71,500, had two bedrooms, an open plan living space, balcony, sea views, and access to a communal pool.

But Andrew spotted a huge damp spot in the living area. Andrew declared: "I'm a little bit concerned about a damp patch I've spied in the living room." The property was abandoned and struck off their list. Damp can cause severe health issues - with the risk of respiratory issues including a cough, wheeze and shortness of breath, as well as an increased risk of airway infections and even death.

However, the subsequent offerings were also not winners for the couple - as one had a kitchen that was deemed unappealing and they decided another property was not worth their time. The episode ended, ultimately, with Joan and Andrew scrapping their search to return home and aim to increase their budget before beginning a new search.

Earlier this month, Ben shared his condolences following the death of fellow A Place In The Sun host Jonnie Irwin. He shared a photo of Jonnie looking happy while surrounded by fellow TV workers.

In his tribute, Ben wrote: “Oh what fun we had! RIP Jonnie, you really were a star! Our thoughts and prayers are with Jess and your boys.” Jonnie’s death at the age of 50 was announced this month after he bravely battled cancer for three years.

A statement released by his family at the start of the month said: "It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of Jonnie’s passing. A truly remarkable soul, he fought bravely against cancer with unwavering strength and courage. Jonnie touched the lives of so many with his kindness, warmth, and infectious spirit."

"At this time, we kindly ask for the privacy of Jonnie’s family as they navigate through this profound loss. Their grief is immeasurable, and your thoughts, prayers, and support are deeply appreciated. As we remember the beautiful moments shared with Jonnie, let us celebrate a life well-lived and a legacy that will forever be etched in our hearts. Jonnie may be gone from our sight, but his love, laughter, and memories will live on. Rest in peace, dear Jonnie. You will be dearly missed, but never forgotten.”
