Paddy McGuinness’s busy year has just got busier as he has been announced as the host of a new travel show.

The 50-year-old comedian has been in the spotlight since the turn of the century as he became a stand out star of comedy show Phoenix Nights. He has since gone on to present TV shows, continue acting, and is also a well established stand up comedian.

He has had some back luck in recent months as a string of his shows have been cancelled with the BBC’s Top Gear, A Question of Sport and I Can See Your Voice have all been axed. But now it seems his fortunes are changing as he has secured a new TV show - and some other shows have been renewed.

Cameras will follow the comedian and TV host as he treks around Europe for a new travel series, and the show will be shown on BBC One and via iPlayer later this year. Fans will also be thrilled to learn Paddy's Channel 4 game show Tempting Fortune has been renewed for a second season - and there will be more of him on the BBC as he will also host a documentary series called Inside The Factory for BBC Two.

Fans may feel that the former Phoenix Nights star is unavoidable on the small screen. A source told The Sun: “He’s had mixed fortunes recently with several of his shows getting the chop, but it looks like Paddy’s luck is changing.

"This travelogue is a bit of a departure for Paddy and the programme might see him team up with a buddy for the trip. Either way it’s the latest in several bits of good news for his career.”

Paddy’s news of a busy schedule comes just weeks after he complained he was running out of cash. Back in December, the Take Me Out star was explaining that he was going back on the road in 2024 with a huge new stand up tour. Appearing on This Morning to promote the tour - which kicks off in October - the star was asked why he’d waited eight years between stand up tours.

Sounding sheepish, Paddy confessed: “Erm, well the money's run out now so it took about eight years to spend it all and I'm like, 'I've got to build it back up'. So weirdly, writing a tour and putting one on does take a lot of your time. When we had the breather from Top Gear, I'd been planning it for a long time, I went, 'There's a window there'. So I start it next year, but towards the back end of next year. And then it goes into 2025.”

He announced his tour plans on social media days earlier. Sharing a post on Instagram, he wrote: "I’ve been itching to tell you this! After a six year break I'm finally back on Tour!!! Paddy McGuinness - Nearly There. All pre ticket sale links in my Bio. See you in the New Year… live!!!!”

While Paddy’s professional life is on the up, his personal life has collapsed. The star has been married to 35-year-old model and campaigner Christine McGuinness since 2011, with whom he shares three children - but they split in 2022 and divorce is on the horizon.

Confirming their split in July 2022, the couple said in a statement: "A while ago we took the difficult decision to separate but our main focus as always is to continue loving and supporting our children. We hadn’t planned on sharing this publicly until we were ready but after the lack of privacy surrounding our personal life, we feel left with no other option but to clarify.

"This was not an easy decision to make but we’re moving forward as the best parents we can be for our three beautiful children. We'll always be a loving family, we still have a great relationship and still live happily in our family home together... Although we work in the public eye we ask kindly if you could respect our wishes for privacy on this matter."
