After what feels like an eternity, FromSoftware has given us our first look at the upcoming Elden Ring DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, which is the first and only expansion the developer has planned for the game and launched this summer.

It's been a long wait for concrete news about the Elden Ring DLC. Aside from confirming its existence last February shortly after the game's first anniversary livestream event, it's been nothing but tumbleweed from the studio. Given that FromSoftware's previous titles have seen the DLC drop within a year after launch, this has been an uncharacteristically long dry spell in terms of post-launch content, but we finally have an Elden Ring DLC date!

Instead of a surprise February launch to sync nicely with the title's second anniversary, the Elden Ring DLC release date has been confirmed for June 21, 2024. That's the longest stint we've seen yet between the launch of a FromSoftware game and its DLC. The wait between Dark Souls 2 and its first DLC was four months; there were seven months between Dark Souls 3 and its DLC; and for Bloodborne, the gap was eight months. So two years and four months has set a new record.

Looking at the PlayStation and Xbox stores, as well as Steam for PC players, the price for the expansion will raise a few eyebrows. Bear in mind that the base game is currently priced at £49.99 / $79.99 / AU$89.95 (note that the PlayStation Store price in Australia is five dollars cheaper than Steam and Xbox), the price of the standalone Elden Ring DLC isn't that far off. Overpriced? I'll leave that for you to decide.

There's a bit of discrepancy between AU platform pricing, as there is with the base game, so we've split up the Elden Ring DLC price accordingly:
