The latest Magic: The Gathering - Universes Beyond offering comes to us courtesy of a collaboration with video game studio Bethesda, and hinges around the Fallout universe.

Set in the post-apocalyptic wastelands of an alternative version of earth, Fallout spans multiple games and locations, a huge number of which are featured in the upcoming set.

You'll have seen a lot of the cards already, but in case you need a reminder, the set releases with 4 commander decks - Science!, Scrappy Survivors, Mutant Menace, and Hail Caesar. It features our favorite characters, locations, and items, as well as some awesome artwork and mechanics both new and returning.

As well as brand new cards, there are a tonne of reprints which have flavoured in the Fallout Theme. In a curious case of symmetry, we're able to preview one of each.

Card One: Charisma Bobblehead

Bobbleheads are fun collectibles that first appeared in Fallout 3. They come in tonnes of different varieties depending on the game, but one thing is guaranteed - there will always be bobblheads for each of the S.P.E.C.I.A.L stats.

The C in S.P.E.C.I.A.L stands for charisma, and that's the bobblehead we have here - a 3 mana colourless artifact which allows you to add one mana of any colour.

In addition, for the low low price of 4 mana, you can create a 1/1 white Solider token for each other Bobblehead you control. This makes the card potentially quite powerful, especially in a "bobblehead-themed" deck, which might feature multiple bobbleheads of all different kinds.

The exact utility of the card will likely depend on the effects of the other bobbleheads, but at this point a lot of these are still under wraps.

The artwork of the card is fantastic, featuring the bobblehead surrounded by scrap and junk, all covered with the classic Fallout green hue that gamers have come to either love or hate.

The bobblehead comes in two separate prints, both of which can be seen here.

Card Two: Hour of Reckoning

This card is a reprint of a card featuring in multiple sets, including the Phyrexia themed releases.

The Fallout set sees it reimagined, with soldiers from the Brotherhood of Steel shooting energy weapons at some unseen enemy. It features flavour text from Proctor Ingram, a scribe of the Brotherhood featured in Fallout 4.

Functionally, the card remains the same - 7 mana (3 of which must be white) in order to destroy all non token creatures. Since it has the "convoke" keyword, this could be very cheap compared to its effect, and will certainly find a home in white decks across the game.

Fallout: Out of the Vault releases 8 March 2024, and can be found wherever you usually buy your cards.
