Ronnie O'Sullivan has opened up on changes he has made to his game

Ronnie O’Sullivan feels “happier” having stopped analysing his displays and being drawn into a war of words with opponents after his bitter spat with Ali Carter at the Masters.

The seven-time world champion has endured a dramatic few months recently. He won the Masters in January before withdrawing from the German Masters and the Welsh Open.

O’Sullivan was back in action earlier this week with a Players Championship victory over Zhou Yuelong. It is the first time he has played in over a month and he has revealed that he has made slight tweaks to the way he approaches the sport.

Speaking to ITV, O’Sullivan said: "I don’t assess my performances really, I make that a golden rule. Bit of match practice, take what I can from the tour and move on. I’m just trying to get away with playing as least as I can, I feel happier doing that.

"This is all icing on the cake for me, whatever I get off this tour. I’ve got my exhibitions, my ambassador work and that’s my main thing – I just fit in a few tournaments around that."

His route past Zhou was far from straightforward in Telford. Held at 2-2, he rallied to win four consecutive frames to secure a 6-2 success.

Asked if Zhou would be regretting some of his opportunities earlier in the clash, O’Sullivan remained tight-lipped by sticking to another change to his approach - not discussing other players. He replied: “Yeah I'm not going to comment on other players anymore. So I'm just pleased to be through."

O’Sullivan’s refusal to talk about his opponents comes after he had a bitter clash with Masters final opponent Carter. The former launched into an extraordinary rant during his press conference after claiming the prize.

Carter had accused his opponent of "snotting on the floor" during the match at the Ally Pally. “He needs to sort his f***ing life out,” blasted O'Sullivan in response.

"I’m not going to skirt around it anymore, tip-toeing on egg shells around someone like that. He’s a f***ing nightmare. Playing snooker against someone like that is a nightmare.

“He’s not a nice person. It’s not a nice vibe he leaves around the table. I’ve said my piece, I don’t give a s**t. I’ve said it now, done. You know what he’s like, everybody knows what he’s like. He’s got issues.

"F***ing why has he got issues with me? I’m not having it. I don’t care, grow some balls. I don’t give a f**k, I don’t give a f**k about any of these snooker players, any of them.

“The more he brings it on, the more I f***ing punish him every time. He’s just digging a grave for himself. I don’t give a f**k. That’s it, I’ve said my piece.”
