Amy Schumer slammed “misogynistic” online trolls who cruelly body shamed her over her swollen face.

The 42-year-old was targeted on social media after she made promotional appearances in the US for her new show Life & Beth, as her face appeared puffy. Amy was even forced to issue a statement regarding her health after being subjected to a series of cruel comments on Twitter, Instagram and TikTok, with trolls suggesting she had put on weight, or was pregnant.

During an interview on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast, the mother-of-one said her haters are upset she’s “not thinner and prettier”, and admitted she gets more negative comments about her appearance than her career. “I think they're mad that I'm not thinner, I think they're mad I'm not prettier, and that I still feel like I have a right to speak,” the Emmy-winning actress explained.

She believes the criticism she receives on a regular basis is misogyny, and said she had grown a “thick skin” after years of negativity online. “I think that they don't want any woman to speak - I mean, what woman has ever opened her mouth and not been torn to shreds?” Amy asked. While she tries to focus on the “passion out there” for her from loyal fans, she confessed it was hard to ignore the trolls who “feel very comfortable s***ing on her”.

“I could focus on that and it doesn't feel good when the whole Internet's mad at you,” she continued. “Don't get me wrong - it does not feel good and I don't wish that on anyone if they don't deserve it. It's been a long time people have been coming for me,” the Trainwreck star added.

The star, who shares son Gene, four, with husband Chris Fischer, took to Instagram last week to release a statement about her health, following growing concern online regarding her swollen face. Amy, who was diagnosed with endometriosis, told her followers she was suffering from a flare-up, but was being treated with medication. “Thank you so much for everyone’s input about my face! I’ve enjoyed feedback and deliberation about my appearance as all women do for almost 20 years. And you’re right it is puffier than normal right now,” she began.

“I have endometriosis, an auto immune disease that every woman should read about. There are some medical and hormonal things going on in my world right now but I’m okay,” Amy added, as she fired back at online trolls, telling them: “A woman doesn’t need any excuse for her physical appearance and owes no explanation.”

“Like every other women/person some days I feel confident and good as hell and others I want to put a bag over my head,” she shared, as she told her fans she felt “strong and beautiful and so proud of this tv show I created. Wrote. Starred in and directed. Maybe just maybe we can focus on that for a little.”
