A man has died after falling from an apartment block as police executed a warrant at the building.

A man in his 40s "fell from a height" at an apartment block in Collyhurst, Manchester, and was pronounced dead at the scene. At the time, police had been attending the apartments carrying out a warrant in connection with a criminal investigation when the man, who was inside the apartment, fell from the window.

Locals "knew something was serious" when they heard loud sirens shortly after 7pm on Tuesday evening. An evidence tent was erected at the site of the fatality as the road and car parks to the apartments were cordoned off. Videos taken from the scene showed a large number of police vehicles and ambulances responding at the scene.

The incident has been referred to Greater Manchester Police's Professional Standards Directorate and the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IPOC). Officers remained at the apartment block later on into Tuesday evening, with the cordon in place as forensics continued their work amid the ongoing investigation.

One Collyhurst resident said: "At around 7pm this evening I heard around seven loud sirens outside on the road. It is not unusual to hear that on the main Rochdale Road, so I just presumed they were heading to the city centre - but guessed something was serious due to the amount of them."
