A couple claimed they missed out on a £182m EuroMillions jackpot when their numbers were drawn but their ticket payment didn’t go through.

Rachel Kennedy and Liam McCrohan were been left “absolutely heartbroken” when they realised their usual numbers of 6, 12, 22, 29, 33, 6 and 11 had come up back in 2021. They had played the same numbers for five weeks in a row, before all seven digits appeared in Friday night's draw.

Rachel explained how she had set up her account to automatically buy a EuroMillions ticket for each draw - but when payment for Friday's ticket was attempted, the lottery account did not have enough funds. Checking her account after Friday's draw, she was greeted with a message saying her numbers were a "winning match" - however her heart sank when she realised the glitch.

Rachel, who was a business student at Brighton University at the time, said: "I called my boyfriend Liam and my mum into the room and they couldn't believe it either so I was like, 'oh my god I need to call them'. "I called the number thinking that I had won £182million and they said 'yeah you've got the right numbers but you didn't have the funds in your account for the payment of the ticket so it didn't actually go through'. I was on top of the world when I thought I had won, but when I found out I hadn't, Liam was actually more upset than me."

Rachel said they were "absolutely heartbroken" - and now thinks of her usual weekly numbers as "unlucky" and has decided to change them. It came after an unlucky British teenager just missed out on an enormous £178m EuroMillions jackpot with every one of her numbers just one out.

Tayla Octave, 19, could not believe her bad luck when she checked her lucky dip ticket for the mega draw. The marketing apprentice’s numbers were either one too big or one too small for the winning sequence including the Lucky Stars. She could have been getting ready to pack in the job and buy her family a home with the £178 million.

But she was left with nothing after getting in touching distance of the huge prize. The winning row of numbers were 04 12 25 46 48 - 07 12 but the teenager from south east London had 05, 13, 24, 45, 49 - 06 11. Tayla told the Sun: "I'm just gutted. It's a long shot to win the lottery anyway but to be so close is heartbreaking.

"At first I just saw I hadn't won anything but then I went through and compared them side by side and that's when I realised that every single number I had was just one away from the winning ones. That sort of money would be life changing and I started to think about what I would have done with it all."
