Pep Guardiola could not help but deliver an answer laden with sarcasm when asked about the future of Kylian Mbappe.

The Manchester City boss unleashed his mischievous side to help bat away speculation about the French World Cup winner who is set to depart Paris Saint-Germain this summer. Mbappe has told the Ligue 1 side he does not wish to extend his deal.

PSG have not confirmed the departure of their superstar but the 25-year-old is already said to have an agreement with Real Madrid. The announcement of Mbappe's departure is set to be made in the coming months.

Suggestions that City Football Group have met with the former Monaco ace's representatives ensured that the forward was on the agenda for Guardiola's press conference. The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss chose not to give much away when asked about Mbappe's talent.

Speaking ahead of City's clash with Brentford, Guardiola said: "I think he's quite good, I think he has a future." Mbappe is said to have agreed to a pay cut to join Real Madrid next term on a five-year deal. The Frenchman could be due a huge £85million signing on fee to make the move to the Bernabeu but could see his £22m-a-year salary drop by as much as £10m.

Guardiola's reaction follows that of Mikel Arteta, who hopes Arsenal are in a position to be involved in the conversation for Mbappe. The Spanish coach believes the Gunners carry the prestige to attract the world's best players.

The 41-year-od said last week: "When there is a player of that calibre we always have to be in the conversation. But as you said it looks in a different way. Why not? If we want to be the best team, we are going to need the best talent and the best players, that is for sure."

He added: "The club we are, I don’t think that has ever been an issue. Everybody wants to play for Arsenal. At least the players we have held discussions with, they always have that smile on their face the moment you open the door and start to have that discussion. That is because of our history and everything we have done in the past as well."
