(Almost) regular as clockwork, Nintendo has announced that its first Nintendo Direct presentation of the year will air this week with a focus on third-party titles.

Following weeks of speculation and rampant rumours, Nintendo has finally announced that the Nintendo Direct February 2024 – the very first one of the year – will air later this week. The contents of which remain mostly a mystery, but this news is no doubt exciting for people wondering what they’ll be playing on their Nintendo Switch throughout the first half of 2024. It comes at a time when many have theorised that a possible Nintendo Switch 2 reveal could be imminent, despite recent reports that the successor console won’t be in our hands until at least 2025.

Nintendo announced that the Nintendo Direct February 2024 presentation will be coming in a tweet, noting that it will last for “around 25 minutes” with a focus on titles launching in the first half of the year from the company's "publishing and development partners”. This essentially means that the emphasis won’t be on first-party exclusives, so we can rule out learning more about forthcoming titles such as Princess Peach: Showtime! (you can read our preview here) and the remake of Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon. Even still, there’s plenty to be excited for.

Nintendo Direct February 2024: start time

The Nintendo Direct February 2024 start time is set for Wednesday, February 21 , kicking off at 2pm GMT / 9am ET / 6am PST . The presentation is set to last for just shy of half an hour, with a focus on third-party titles – both new and known. If you’re unable to watch live at the start time, the Direct will be archived in video form on Nintendo’s official channels.

Nintendo Direct February 2024: how to watch

As always, players will be able to watch the Nintendo Direct using one of two options: Nintendo's YouTube channel and Nintendo's Twitch channel. Both official channels will stream the exact same showcase at the exact same time.

The Nintendo Direct February 2024 stream will likely go live around 30 minutes or so before the presentation is set to begin, as is usually the case with the developer's Directs. If you’re getting closer to the time and still not seeing anything, it might be worth refreshing to page to make sure you don’t miss the presentation as soon as it goes live. Once it’s aired we’ll be sure to embed the YouTube livestream here so you can catch up on all the announcements again.

Nintendo Direct February 2024: what to expect

As per Nintendo’s official announcement, the Nintendo Direct is set to mostly focus on games releasing in the first half of 2024. This means most of the titles shown should – in theory – be arriving before June. With that said, we can put together a couple of predictions for titles we’re sure to see highlight in the Nintendo Direct, but there may be a couple of surprises too.

Pentiment and Hi-Fi Rush

Getting the obvious point out of the way, last week saw Xbox’s leadership team address rumours that several of its exclusives – including Starfield – will come to other consoles like Nintendo Switch and PS5. During the Official Xbox Podcast, around the 01:02 mark, Phil Spencer himself said that “we’re going to take four games to the other consoles”. Of the four speculated, Pentiment and Hi-Fi Rush make the most sense as smaller-scale games the Nintendo Switch can run, so don’t be surprised if one (or both) shows up in the Nintendo Direct February 2024 presentation.

Unicorn Overlord

One of next month’s biggest JRPGs is Unicorn Overlord, a turn-based battler developed by Vanillaware – the studio behind 2019’s cult classic hit 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim. It’s easily one of the most notable JRPGs to come in 2024 now that Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth and Persona 3 Reload are out of the way. Nintendo would be wise to highlight this one, even though it’s also coming to PlayStation and Xbox. Unicorn Overlord has a March 8, 2024, release date so there’s no better opportunity to remind Nintendo players it's coming.

South Park: Snow Day

The last two South Park games released on consoles expertly captured the TV show’s tone, using the same art style and creative writing team to make you feel like you were playing a true episode. South Park: Snow Day is a bit of a different proposition in that it presents the world and characters in full 3D, tasking players to battle their way through the titular battleground in glorious co-op. South Park: Snow Day is currently set to launch on Nintendo Switch this March 26, 2024, so there’s a chance we might see it appear.

Hollow Knight: Silk Song

It’s become a bit of a running joke at this point that we could potentially see Hollow Knight: Silk Song shown (or even shadow dropped) at every Nintendo Direct announced. It’s yet to happen, but then who are we to break tradition? Team Cherry’s long-awaited follow-up to its 2017 Metroidvania hit is highly anticipated by many, being closely aligned with the Nintendo Switch as the original console it launched on. After it missed its 20223 release window, could the Nintendo Direct February 2024 presentation be the one where we finally see more? Anything is possible.
