Amber Davies deletes social media after Dancing On Ice backlash and issues plea
Amber Davies issued a heartfelt plea to trolls on Tuesday after receiving negative comments while competing on Dancing On Ice.
The former Love Island star, 27, appeared on Lorraine to talk about her time on the ITV skating show so far, where she sadly found herself in the skate-off on Sunday night, where Ricky Norwood was eliminated.
However, chat soon got onto the trolling Amber has received as the West End performer admitted the negative comments are leaving her "disheartened". Amber said: "I'm quite sensitive and more sensitive than I thought, and I've been reading people's comments. It's so hard not to. I've really let it get into my head because I feel like everything I do is wrong in some people's perspective and from the audience."
Amber then issued a show plea, saying: "You [Lorraine] have such a loyal audience so I just wanted to say whilst I was on here, please be mindful when you're writing on people's social media because we are just human beings. Maybe, rather than coming onto my page, or someone else's page and leaving a negative comment, go to the contestant's page that you support, leave a really lovely comment to them."
The contestant added: "We're working so hard, every week we're exhausted and I feel like I go online then I'm disheartened. I've deleted Twitter now anyway. I've deleted it." Host, Lorraine Kelly, then slammed Twitter, now X, for being "very dark" and "toxic".
Strictly's Molly Rainford and Tyler West fuel romance rumours while on tourAmber found fame on Love Island back in 2017, where she won the show with now ex Kem Cetinay. The star said: "I haven't been on telly for seven years and when I tell you social media has changed, oh my gosh", adding: "The thing is, I am so grateful, me and Simon [Proulx-Sénécal - her professional skating partner] have had so much love and support, millions of nice comments. It's just those negative ones that get in your head."
It comes as Amber, whose Twitter now X account still remains active online, hit back at viewers' backlash on Sunday. Amid the criticism after she was saved over Ricky, Amber penned: "Gosh I should not have come on here."
She went on to respond to an unhappy viewer, who had written: "She should have gone tonight, she doesn't skate on her own. As for Johnny's comment of her winning ... that's a joke right?" to which Amber replied to them: "You try it [...] darling."
