A lottery player has hit the jackpot after he scooped £57,000 shortly after he got engaged and was given a promotion at work.

David Greenwood, from Bradford, couldn't believe his luck after he matched the five main numbers and one Lucky Star in the Euromillions on January 30. The project manager said he had to ring his parents for them to double check his disbelief.

He shared that his new-found fortune of £57,185, would allow him to marry his fiancé, Vanessa Dunn, 27, in 2005, which is a year earlier than they had planned. The 32-year-old, who works for Avove, a partner of Yorkshire Water, revealed that the eye-watering sum will allow them to "live the life we both always dreamed of".

He plans to use some of the money towards an "incredible honeymoon", as well as home renovations. Speaking about his triple win, he said: “They say luck comes in threes – well it certainly has for me – I got the big yes from Vanessa when I proposed to her in Thailand just before Christmas, I then received a promotion at work – and now this incredible win! This really is life-changing for both of us.

“We had hoped to get married in 2026 but we will now be moving our wedding forward by a year. We can plan the most incredible honeymoon and renovate our home to transform it into our dream house. We love where we live and have been saving to do a programme of renovations as and when we could afford it. But now this means we can do all of these so much sooner and, literally, start to live the life we both always dreamed of.”

The lucky punter has already made a few first purchases, including a reversible puffer jacket for their adorable dog, Rodney, the Bedlington Terrier, and a new pair of trainers for Vanessa, who is a water quality scientist.

David continued: “Rodney is a big part of our lives and goes everywhere with us so we felt we had to treat him first. It has been so cold of late so a reversible yellow and black zip jacket was definitely on the cards for him. And of course a new pair of trainers for Vanessa for all of those dog walks! We actually still cannot believe all of this has happened – we have to keep pinching ourselves – but this will certainly mean we can now live so much more comfortably.”

David said he cannot wait to book their honeymoon, alongside another special holiday for sometime this year. “We are still trying to decide where to go for our honeymoon – the world really is our oyster now and we have been looking at some very special trips to Canada," he said.

“The win has also enabled us to splash out on another holiday and really spoil ourselves later this year, probably to South Africa and potentially on safari.” David, who plays on the National Lottery app has used the same numbers for several years, choosing birthdays as his lucky numbers. He explained that he took a glimpse at his phone when he noticed his luck had changed.

“I was just scrolling through my phone, as you do, and noticed that someone had won the EuroMillions jackpot. So, I thought I would check my ticket on the off chance I may have matched a couple of numbers," he explained.

“I would always joke with Vanessa about winning the lottery and I just couldn’t believe it as I was checking the numbers and my numbers were appearing – I had to keep checking, double-checking – and checking again!

“I turned to Vanessa and said, ‘I think we’ve won – and won several thousand pounds!’ She wouldn’t believe me. I even called my mum and dad to cross check for me too, and yes, I was a winner. I am actually still completely in shock, it is totally surreal.”

David, who purchased his winning ticket on the National Lottery app, scored with the following numbers: 5, 10, 19, 27, 30 and the Lucky Star number was 6. Brits can buy and check their tickets online by downloading the app or by visiting national-lottery.co.uk. Alternatively, players can also purchase or check their tickets in-store.
