Two 'prolific' drug dealers used the Royal Mail postal service to send cannabis, cocaine and ecstasy all over the north west of England. Trent Gordon, 30, and failed accountant Deane Hassan, 27, were caught when police found cash, drugs and packaging in their homes. Now, both fathers have been put in jail for selling class A and B drugs.

The court also heard that a third person, Rebecca Murphy, was given a two-year suspended prison sentence in December. They were caught after police raided places linked to the three of them. When the police arrived at one house, they saw Murphy taking cocaine. At another house, they found a lot of cannabis, some cocaine, digital scales, packaging and five mobile phones.

At the house in Salford, Greater Manchester, police found more cannabis, ecstasy, packaging, labels, scales, and a vacuum sealing machine, Mr Khan explained. During the search at the Darwin house, officers discovered cannabis, cocaine, three more mobiles, empty snap bags, scales, and over £7,000 in cash.

Phone checks revealed a huge amount of messages between the three and chats on the app Telegram. "At all three houses there was packaging to show that lots of drugs were being sent through the Royal Mail system, as well as possible debtors lists," Mr Khan said.

Gordon, a dad-of-one who had seven previous convictions, tried to leave his life of crime and was training to be a lorry driver, his barrister Michael Johnson said. His client came from a 'stable family' but got into dealing when his own drug use became 'normal'.

Hassan, also a father who had one previous conviction, had told the authors of a pre-sentence report he didn't think he had much choice when he took part in the operation. He had only said this 'through panic', according to his barrister Martin Pizzey, who touched on his client's 'addiction' to drugs and the death of his daughter in 2018, the Manchester Evening News reported.

The court heard Hassan had been given a 'threat to life' warning by the police. His fiancé, in a reference read out in court, said the defendant was 'changing his life' and had 'completely changed his ways'. The court heard Hassan had started training to be an accountant but never completed the course.

The Recorder of Manchester Nicholas Dean KC told the defendants they were working for major drugs players 'higher up the chain' and that their business was 'really prolific'.

Gordon, of Balmoral Road in Darwen, Lancashire, was jailed for three years and six months after he admitted supplying class A and B drugs, cocaine and cannabis.

Hassan, of Liverpool Street in Salford, was handed a three-year prison sentence after he admitted the same charges, plus another charge of supplying class A drugs (ecstasy).
