BBC have come under fire from fans watching the BAFTA Film Awards from home after 'spoiling' the ceremony before it had even finished airing on BBC One

BBC viewers accused the broadcaster of spoiling the BAFTAs - before it even aired on BBC One.

The awards ceremony is currently being aired on the BBC, but as many will know, the awards show is not live and was filmed from about 5pm today. Whilst it has now officially wrapped, fans are watching the ceremony on TV.

However, a blunder by the BBC had fans fuming tonight as they accused the broadcaster of ruining the show by sending an app alert to their subscribers about who won the coveted Best Actor and Best Actress gong, way before it even aired.

One wrote: "BBC News app ruining #BAFTAs by sending breaking news bulletins telling us whose won before the awards are announced," whilst a second added: "What the?!? BBC news app just spoiled Best Actor AND Best Actress. WTAF?!?!?!? One day they won’t f*** up the broadcasting of the #BAFTAS. But, this is not that day…. @BAFTA #EEBAFTAs."

A third shared: "Wasn’t expecting a BBC notification with the list of winners popping up on my phone whilst it was shown with a delay on BBC1. Talk about spoiling the event! You could have just had a link which we could have chosen to open instead of the winners names coming up. #BBCNews #BAFTAs," with a fourth adding: "Watching the #BAFTAs LIVE on TV. Just got breaking news from #BBC telling me who won best Actor and Actress. Thanks for the spoiler #BBC."

"Dear @BAFTA @BBCOne Please either show the ceremony live (or on short delay for actorly f words) or insist on an embargo until the evening. Trying to keep any jeopardy for the TV broadcast is pointless if all outlets INCLUDING THE BBC are offering plentiful spoilers. #BAFTAs," a fifth penned, as a sixth wrote: "#BAFTAs. Why are the BBC announcing the awards online when the TV coverage is so far behind? What a shame for viewers to know who has won before being screened on TV."

A full list of winners has now been confirmed, but the show is still airing on the BBC at the time of writing. So far, fans have seen Mia McKenna-Bruce collect the Rising Star Award and Samantha Morton picking up the Bafta Fellowship.
