Gladiators descends into chaos as star forced to pull out due to major injury

Gladiators contestant Finley was forced to pull out of the quarter-finals on Saturday night due to sustaining an injury earlier on in the show.

Viewers will recall that Finley, 22, from Doncaster, South Yorkshire, sustained a knee injury during his debut episode earlier on in the series. Finley said at the time: "I twisted my knee. I'm going to come back and recover. This is not the end from me, you'll see me again."

However, despite the injury and after being checked over by the show's medical team, he carried on to complete the final challenge and secure a spot in the quarter-finals.

Yet on Saturday night's quarter-finals, Finley gave an update on his injury, revealing he had to pull out of the quarter-finals and had been replaced by a contestant called Wesley instead. Finley admitted: "My knee's lost a lot of strength, but I'm staying positive and I'm very hopeful for the future. Back next year, fitter, faster and stronger!"

Host Bradley Walsh said: "It is an absolute shame for Finley but that does mean we will be bringing in a standby contestant to take your place, let's hear it for Wesley everybody!"

Supporting Wesley, Finley said: "I could not be passing this onto a better guy, Wesley is a great guy and he's going to put one hell of a show on for everyone watching!"

Viewers were left gutted for Finley, taking to Twitter, now X, to share their thoughts. One person said: "#gladiators poor Finley", a different account put: "#gladiators #gladiatorsready poor Finley", another wrote: "Next year Finley Bring it on!!!! #Gladiators" while a different account added: "Get well soon Finley. #Gladiators."

Elsewhere, one person wrote: "Finley, All the best #Gladiators" with a crying emoji, another put: "Oh Finley no, his heat is worth a watch and he is literally a legend for winning his heat with a leg injury. #Gladiators" while another added: "Oh gutted for Finlay, he was brilliant #Gladiators - hope he gets another chance."

However, some show watchers were confused as to why Gladiators would bring in a standby contestant and not a past competitor. One person said: "So I’m confused if Wesley wins does he carry on in the semi finals or is Finley back then? And why not have the second fastest finisher? #Gladiators" while another added: "I’m glad I’m not the only one confused to why they didn’t bring in a previous contender! #Gladiators."
