New weather maps show all the places snow could hit in the UK this week.

This weekend is set to be a wet and miserable one for most of England, with a severe rain warning in place from Saturday afternoon, all the way through to Sunday. Over 400 miles from tip to tail, the mammoth weather warning follows on from a worrying precedent set recently that sees the entire country covered.

But whilst the Met Office has warned we will see rain this weekend, there’s going to be snow on the way during the week. Forecaster WXCharts forecast snow for February 22 and 23 this week - bringing flurries across parts of northeastern Wales, the North East stretching into swathes of Scotland.

The flurries could turn heavy at times, the forecaster warns, with the worst snow due to hit on Thursday. On that day, you could see lighter snowfall up a central column through Wales, from the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (Brecon Beacons), across parts of the west coast and central Wales.

This includes Aberystwyth, Newton, Llangollen, parts of Snowdonia and up to Colwyn Bay. In England, snow is possible up through Manchester, into the North West leading through across the Scottish border. This covers the likes of Blackpool and Lancaster, crossing the border over into Scotland where the worst snow is forecast for Dumfries, Castle Douglas, and up north to Glasgow, Stirling, Dundee, and Aberdeen.

The next day the snow will be less widespread, concentrated on the towns and villages around the Lake District, including Barrow-in-Furness, Whitehaven, Workington, and Carlisle.

List of areas that could be hit by snow this week:

February 22:

  • Bannau Brycheiniog National Park
  • Parts of central and north west Wales including Aberystwyth, Newton, Llangollen into Snowdonia and up to Calowyn Bay
  • Manchester
  • Blackpool Lancaster, up across the Peak District to the Scottish border
  • Dumfries, Castle Douglas, up north to Glasgow, then moving to the north east of Scotland covering Stirling, Dundee, and Aberdeen

February 23:

  • Towns and villages around the Peak District
  • Pockets of north west Wales
  • Western coast of Scotland

But before Brits can enjoy any snow, they’ve got to get through the rain this weekend. The yellow severe warning is in place from 3pm today until 6pm tomorrow and covers all of England.

The Met Office said: “An area of persistent and occasionally heavy rain is expected to move from west to east across the warning area during Saturday and Sunday, falling on already saturated ground. Rain will clear western areas early Sunday, whilst rate of clearance from east and southeast England is open to some uncertainty, but all areas should become dry by evening.”
