Dog attack sees five-year-old child left with 'life-changing' injuries

A five-year-old child has been left with life changing injurires after they were attacked by a dog in Rochdale.

The youngster was seriously hurt in the attack by a lone dog at an address in the Greater Manchester town. The child was rushed to hospital with witnesses saying an air ambulance landed nearby. The dog was seized by specialist dog handlers.

No arrests have been made and police officers are continuing to make enquiries about the incident which happened on Sunday afternoon. No further details about the child, including if they were a boy or a girl, has been released by officers.

Greater Manchester Police said in a statement: "On Sunday 11 February 2024, at around 2.40pm, officers were called to reports of a dog bite at an address on Broad Lane, Rochdale. A five-year-old child received serious injuries that required hospital treatment, with these injuries thought to be life-changing.

"The dog was safely recovered by specialist police officers. No arrests have been made at present and enquiries are ongoing at this stage."
