Mesut Ozil was never known for being one of football's heavyweights, but the former Arsenal star is packing on muscle since his retirement.

The World Cup winner only hung up his boots in 2023, but has recently displayed a pumped-up new look. The ex-Real Madrid man has seemingly been working hard on adding some bulk to the more lithe figure that fans will remember strutting out at the Emirates.

Some fans are speculating that his latest posts suggest he might be considering coming back to football. While that seems unlikely, what's clear is that Ozil has bulked up remarkably ahead of wherever he goes next.

The caption on Ozil's Instagram workout video reads, "Always stay ready, then you don't need to get ready," alongside an hourglass emoji. The footage shows him powering through tough exercises like pushing a sled stacked with weights and hurling battle ropes all set to upbeat backing music. Seemingly, he's en route for something new.

Fans and former teammates filled the comments section to cheer on the star's dramatic makeover. His incredible physical change since stepping away from football has left many stunned.

"Beast," was the short but sweet compliment from former international team-mate Antonio Rudiger, the ex-Chelsea defender who's now at Real himself.

Meanwhile, ex-rival Rio Ferdinand praised: "Looking strong bro."

"Bro doesn't need protection from [Sead] Kolasinac anymore," one fan commented, referring to the scary 2019 carjacking attempt on the two players while they were at Arsenal together, where the Bosnian fought off the attackers.

Fast forward to today, and it might just be Ozil doing the defending.
