While 8 litres may seem like a lot for an added appliance in your home - it's honestly not. It sits quietly away in the corner of whichever room we are drying clothes OR which ever windows are getting particularly swamped with condensation.

Between my family and I, we tend to have at least one wash every day or two, so making the most of ways which reduces our energy bills is crucial - we already have quite hefty bills (especially during the winter months).

Now, with one large clothes horse, our new shiny dehumidifier and a dryer for mainly our smalls, bedding and towels- I can guarantee to get two washes washed, dried and put away in one big swoop to avoid feeling like we live in a laundrette for days on end.

The minute I began to use the Meaco Dehumidifier in our home I noticed the difference.

There was something that I heard not so long ago that, anyone who owns a dehumidifer will notice that the air seems much more 'crispy, fresh and clear of any bad odours' and this couldn't be more true.

One of the most bizarre things for me is just how fresh the air felt (even whilst doing washing) when turning on our 8L Meaco Dehumidifier - it's honestly been a gamechanger.

Mirror Choice Best Dehumidifer- Meaco 8l Dehumidifer, £185.96

Super easy to set up, easy navigation system on the top and a tank that you empty as you go, it's pretty much as straight forward as that... you can get to work with it as soon as you plug it in. All that is suggested is that it has plenty of breathing space so that it can get to ventilating any room without fuss.

First of all I wanted to test it's drying power on our washing set up in our living room.

I loved that I can set the built in timer and clothes settings and carry on with my work while it reaches a specific humidity limit.

When the target relative humidity is reached, the unit runs its fan for five minutes to check that all is OK and then it turns itself off to save energy. Thirty minutes later the fan turns back on and samples the air again for five more minutes.

If the relative humidity has increased above the target, it starts dehumidifying again: if the relative humidity is OK it goes back to sleep again for another 30 minutes. In a well-sealed home this will mean that the fan will run for just 10 minutes an hour instead of 60, using just 1/6th of the power of other desiccant dehumidifiers.

The control panel features three modes- a quiet mode (perfect for bedrooms) which I haven't used yet as I think this would still be a little loud for me to sleep through, a laundry mode with built in on and off timers while you go about your day.

The change to my washing drying times is halved, our windows are clear from condensation and the mould is reduced around our most damp room windows dramatically.

I have kept to using small dehumidifers such as the ANSIO Dehumidifier 500ml Pack of 10, which can be picked up on Amazon for as little as £11.79 just to keep me from using the Meaco 24/7, the combination of both works a treat in our large 3 bedroom house- I am saving nearly £1 per wash load. It's really been an incredible investment.

Removing the moisture from the air inside the property will hopefully keep nasty bugs at bay too which is a big plus- damp and mould would be awful for my partner's boy who has asthma so we are just really glad to be on top of it.

The results were just as impressive upstairs- our bedroom was growing mould in quite a large chunk around the bottom of the frame and now it's barely there.

You can pick up the Meaco Dehumidifer on Amazon here for £185.96. Whilst this is quite a costly way to rid of damp and help with washing, it's been a worthy buy for us making other savings along the way with up to 80% reduction in running costs from using the control panel modes around our busy schedules.

Other brands we can highly recommend for their dehumdifier ranges include Pro Breeze, Dr. Prepare and Conopu.

Take a look at these brands particularly if you need a smaller dehumidifer, a cheaper alternative and affordable considering some more complex features than the rest- all three brands (just as much as Meaco) can offer one thing for certain- and that's reduced damp and mould in your home.
