Shein blasted for strange 'edited' photo of pregnancy bump with 'snatched waist'

While every body shape is different, people were quick to slam Shein for portraying an unrealistic portrayal of a pregnant model.

We've all seen a huge shift in models over the years, and it's great to see that the world of fashion has become extremely inclusive with people of all different shapes and sizes. However, there's clearly still work to be done. While pregnancy looks different on every woman and you can't compare as their body goes through all sorts of changes, most will agree they don't have the same body shape as one Shein model, who was modelling a maternity set.

The outfit that has come under fire is a two-piece gym set quipped with a long blue sleeved crop top and matching high waist leggings retailing at £12. However, it's not the outfit itself that has caused a stir, but rather the unrealistic pregnant body portrayed.

People found the unrealistic image bizarre

While it's hard to not compare our bodies to others we see online, it can be difficult not to when we see models with 'perfect' bodies. However, people think Shein has gone too far with this image, which to some looked to be bizarre and edited, and were quick to criticise. The model in question has a perfectly rounded bum and a perfectly rounded baby bump with an extremely tiny waist.

The type of body you'd only really achieve by going under the knife, one shopper took to X, formerly known as Twitter to share a screenshot of the controversial image from the Shein website and wrote: "I love this. This is exactly how a pregnant woman looks."

Others then agreed, as another jibed: "Dream body. Need to get pregnant, then get liposuction and a BBL," and a second added: "When you're having twins but the front room is already full." Another X user chimed: "Wow, this image perfectly captures the beauty and form of pregnancy."

However, others felt the image looked fake, going on to point out the physical changes of a pregnant woman's body and wrote: "Do they know that the uterus expanding pushes all the other organs up and out of the way? Her torso would not be 'snatched' like this. Those organs have to go somewhere." Whereas another simply slammed the photo and compared it to their own body, saying: "I literally looked like a f*****g potato my entire pregnancy. Shein what."

The Mirror approached Shein for comment, and a spokesperson said: "We sincerely apologise for the product image from our third-party supplier that was recently shared on our social media channels. Representing pregnancy in such a manner does not reflect our values and we have taken immediate steps to remove the photos. We are constantly updating our product review process to help prevent issues like this from happening."
