A woman has told how planning a future with the ‘man of her dreams’ has been derailed by her own mother, who has ‘blindsided’ her with a baby bombshell. The 29-year-old shared how she was getting married in five months time, with her and her fiancé planning their future together: “One of the best things about our relationship is my fiancée loves to talk about the future and the timeline we have in mind for important milestones, such as when we are going to buy a house, when we are going to get a new puppy and, most importantly, when we want to start trying for a baby.”

However with the couple looking to start a family soon after they wed, her husband’s throwaway comment of: “I hope your sister gets pregnant before us to prevent unnecessary drama,” started a family furore that has threatened to ruin the couple’s future plans. "I mentioned the comments my husband made to my mum absentmindedly and my mum said: “You could always just carry a baby for your sister to prevent that issue.” She stated she was joking when I asked if she was serious, but her tone did not leave much confidence that she wont make this ‘joke’ again.”

She also revealed that it wasn’t the first time this had been suggested, with her sister also making the comment multiple times in the past. “It makes me think this is something they have discussed together before and are actively wanting to happen,” she said, before revealing that her 24-year-old sister had been married for five years, and had been trying for a baby with no luck: “They did have one pregnancy two years ago, but unfortunately they miscarried within the first trimester.”

After detailing that her family were devout Catholics, which she said meant they ‘didn’t believe in IVF or surrogacy’, she said: “The only way I would be able to ‘carry’ a baby for my sister that the church would approve of, is for me and my fiancée to get pregnant the old fashioned way and then I give my sister my baby. I personally have nothing against surrogacy, but I could never bring a baby into the world and not be that baby’s mother.”

She also told how her and her sister had had a troubled relationship growing up: “My sister despised me growing up, going so far as to tell people she was an only child and had no siblings,” she told.

She also said her sister had always been favoured by her mum, leading to years of arguments: “My mum has a habit of making everything about my sister, When I graduated college with two degrees, at my graduation party my mum stopped the party to gift my sister a stupid gold plated teacher appreciation apple.”

After asking Reddit readers for their help with the stressful sibling situation, one said: “I love how these people are either thinking pregnancy is super easy on women, or genuinely see women as just a baby incubator… and also, I never got how some women are so obsessed with children up to the point of going crazy on their family like this.”

Another commented: “Sister can't have babies, but I might be able to get pregnant so, here sis, take mine because who cares right?” Another highlighted the religious aspect of her post, saying: “The church is against IVF? You can blame Catholicism for many, many things, but not this! How is it supposed to play out in real life?”
