Arsenal have been told to steer clear of signing Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe amid rumours the forward is keen on a move to the Emirates.

For years now it has seemed all but certain that Mbappe would end his time in the French capital and up sticks to sunny Spain to join Real Madrid. However, in the time it has taken the Spanish giants to try and get that deal over the line, new clubs have entered the race.

While the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal may not be quite as big as Los Blancos, they are still Premier League giants and the allure of the English top flight could prove too tempting to turn down in the eyes of Mbappe. Out of contract with PSG this summer, the Gunners have been identified as a potential surprise new club for the World Cup winner.

Arsenal's search for a new goalscorer has been well-documented, however, not everyone is convinced that landing the signature of one of football's biggest stars would be a wise idea. Ex-Rangers ace and prominent pundit Ally McCoist has made his stance on the matter crystal clear.

Asked if Arsenal should spend heavily to secure Mbappe's services, McCoist told talkSPORT: "No. No chance. Not only would you break it [the bank], you’d absolutely have to obliterate it and destroy it and once you do that, you know, it’s happening.

"There’s knocks on the door, ‘He’s on this, I’m only on a quarter of that, I’ve scored this many goals’, etc etc.’" McCoist went on to make clear that he wouldn't regard Arsenal as title favourites even if they did sign Mbappe.

"No, I wouldn’t [make Arsenal title favourites], I’d still pick Manchester City. Listen I love the guy, I think he’s a tremendous player. I’ll never forget watching that World Cup final hat-trick live, one of the highlights of my football career.

"And it’s one of these situations where I’d probably like to see him move. He’s been there and I’m not sure I’m happy with the power that he’s got there either, remember that story about stakes in the club and he could have a say in this, have a say in that. I think that there’s only one club that he’s got an opportunity to go to, Madrid. I think that’s the only one."

It is believed that the idea of following the same path as legendary countryman Thierry Henry is something that appeals to Mbappe. The two have often been compared due to both starting at Monaco and a similar style of play. Whether Mbappe, like Henry did 25 years ago, makes the move to north London remains to be seen.
