Former F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone has urged Christian Horner to "keep his head down" as the probe into the Red Bull boss continues.

Horner has been accused of 'inappropriate behaviour' by a Red Bull staff member, with an independent barrister having been hired to investigate. The team principal strongly denies the allegations.

He was questioned by the barrister at a secret location last Friday, with no news yet on the investigation's progress. For now, Horner is continuing his duties leading the Red Bull team as they build up to the new season.

The reigning constructors champions will hold their car launch on Thursday, with Horner expected to attend. Ahead of the event, which will take place at the team's Milton Keynes base, Ecclestone has handed Horner some advice.

Ecclestone ran F1 for nearly 40 years and became close friends with Horner after Red Bull's entry into the sport in 2005. The 93-year-old has now told Horner to keep his head down and wait for the results of the investigation.

He told AFP: “My advice to Christian, apart from keeping his head down, is to do nothing, wait and see what happens. I hope Christian keeps his head down and that someone talks individually to him and the woman and it is sorted out.”

Ecclestone has also denied claims he urged Horner to resign amid the investigation. He wrote on his Instagram story: “To clarify reports by newspapers that I had urged or suggested that Christian Horner should step down from his position in Red Bull is entirely UNTRUE.”

Horner will attend the car launch on Thursday though it is unknown if he will answer any questions on the allegations. Pre-season testing will get underway in Bahrain next Wednesday but it is not yet clear if the results of the investigation will be submitted before then.

The Englishman was spotted at a secret filming event of the new car at Silverstone on Tuesday. When the allegtions were made public, Red Bull insisted they were taking the matter extremely seriously.

“Having being made aware of certain recent allegations, the company launched an independent investigation," a statement issued by the team's parent company read.

"This process is being carried out by an external specialist barrister. The investigation will be completed as soon as practically possible. It would not be appropriate to comment further at this time.”

Red Bull will decide on what action, if any, to take once the results of the investigation are known. The season kicks off at the start of March with the Bahrain Grand Prix, which is followed a week later by the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
