A small band of gutsy Kansas City Chiefs fans appeared to tackle one of the alleged Super Bowl parade shooters amid the chaos today at Union Station.

Local law enforcement officials said the incident resulted in one death and 22 gunshot injuries, children included. Of those, eight had life-threatening injuries, seven were considered to have life-threatening injuries and six suffered minor injuries. Victims were transported to three nearby hospitals.

A video of the incident shows about four or five fans, among scores of others seemingly running to safety, chasing another man just outside of the station. Another fan appeared to point the alleged shooter out to the men as he blended into the panicked crowd. As the swarms of people running slightly disperses, two men quickly tackle their target, holding him down afterwards.

It's a bit hard to see the shooter as about three more fans surrounded the men. Fans can faintly be heard saying "we got one," as the camera pans several feet over to a group of police officers.

The carnage began as the parade to celebrate the Chiefs' Super Bowl victory against the San Francisco 49ers was coming to an end. Attendees reported hearing gunshots before droves of people began scrambling for cover.

"This is absolutely a tragedy, the likes of which we never would have expected in Kansas City, the likes of which we'll remember for some time," Mayor Quinton Lucas stated.

Parties of fans are being taken to hospitals, and Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves stated during a press conference today that the investigation is still underway. In a statement published on X, formerly Twitter, the Kansas City police announced they were holding two armed suspects.

Twenty or so rounds were fired, according to the police, west of the station close to the garage, and "several people were struck." Graves praised the responding law enforcement officers before criticizing the gunmen for ruining the happy occasion. "We were here for a celebration," she lamented. "Now because of two bad actors, we are standing here. This is not Kansas City."

On social media, people shared more startling videos. In one, it appeared as though someone was giving a shooting victim chest compressions while another person lay close, appearing to be in pain. The sound of screams was backdrop.

According to spokesman Laurel Gifford, St. Luke's Hospital of Kansas City received one walk-in patient with non-life-threatening injuries and one shooting patient in serious condition. According to Jill Jensen Chadwick, the health system's news director, one victim of the incident was receiving treatment at the University of Kansas Health System. She was unaware of the individual's current condition.
