Only Fools and Horses star Patrick Murray has expressed interest in reprising his character for a revival of the beloved TV series, which came to an end two decades ago.

It comes after the news that the actor, 66 - best known for having played Mickey Pearce on the BBC sitcom - had surgery earlier this month following a cancer diagnosis.

He's said that the operation was to remove part of his liver and a tumour. The announcement comes after he was treated for lung cancer last year and was "cured" of that.

Patrick has stated following his latest procedure that he'd love to be part of a revival of the show - which, apart from a charity special, hasn't aired a new episode since 2003.

According to the Sun, he said about a possible revival: "I'd love it. Getting together again and with all the cast and seeing how all the characters have developed."

The outlet - which reports that Patrick hopes to be declared 'cancer-free' at his next scan - said he added: "If the quality of the script was there, I imagine the others would be up for it too."

The actor said that the show's late creator John Sullivan had been "such a great writer," though he believes that John's son Jim Sullivan, 44, would be able to handle a revival.

He said that Jim - who wrote some episodes of spin-off The Green Green Grass and Only Fools and Horses The Musical - is "really good," adding: "I'm sure he could achieve it."

It comes after David Jason, 81 - who played Del Boy Trotter - said last year that he'd "love to revisit" his character. "I need someone to write me a script," he said.

Patrick has expressed an interest in reprising his role in the past too. He however shared concern last year that a revival could end up being "constrained" due to "the woke thing".

Patrick announced he'd been diagnosed with lung cancer last year. He later said he had the tumour removed and had chemotherapy, saying that he was told it was "cured".

Last year, he shared that during the latter treatment a separate tumour was discovered in his liver. He said it was "treatable" and that he had a procedure to deal with it.

He however said last week that he had half his liver and a tumour removed recently. He said: "I kept this under my hat that they'd discovered another primary cancer last year."
