Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean opened up about the one particular day every single year that they make sure to call each other.

Torvill, 66, and Dean, 65 won a gold medal on Valentine's Day at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo. They performed their incredible ice dancing routine to Maurice Ravel's Bolero. The duo 'knew they were good' after 'training and practising' so hard for the historical moment.

Earlier this week, while announcing their retirement from skating in the Bosnian capital, Torvill and Dean revealed they make sure to contact each other on Valentine's Day every year. Torvill and Dean have always got in touch from their homes, in Sussex and West Yorkshire respectively, to wish each other "Happy Bolero Day".

After 40 sweet phone calls and decades of ice skating, the duo have decided to retire.

Speaking about their decision, Dean recently explained: "I think there comes a time when you know. We're not spring chickens any more, but we’re still able to do it to a certain degree we feel good about it, but that will go. This is the right time for us to be able to do that and go and skate and do some of the old routines, be very nostalgic, but then do some new fun, upbeat [dances] with friends of ours from the skating world and Dancing On Ice.

"We’ll have a sense of pride as well, I think, of what we’ve done. I think we'll get reflective and look at it not in a sad way but in a happy way." Although the gold medal-winning duo have hung up their skates, they still share their skating expertise on ITV's Dancing On Ice - which they have featured on since the show first began back in 2006.

The sports stars have drawn a lot of interest in their relationship thanks to the intimate nature of their careers. They may have had incredible chemistry on the ice, but the two have never dated away from the rink. Torvill previously told the Radio Times: "My first memory of Chris is seeing him at the ice rink one Saturday afternoon in 1971. He stood out because he was whizzing around so fast and had blonde hair. That’s when I named him the Blonde Prince."

And while no romance ever formed between the pair, they did kiss one time. She admitted: "We did actually kiss once – before we were a skating couple. We were in the back of the bus going to a league match, and it just happened. It was a one-off. We never talked about it afterwards. We laugh about it now."
