Luis Suarez enjoyed a prolific three-and-a-half year spell with Liverpool, but the striker was left feeling "sad" after they fell just short of winning the Premier League back in 2014.

Suarez scored 82 goals in 133 appearances for the Reds, helping them win the League Cup in 2012. However, he was unable to fire Liverpool to their first ever Premier League title two years late as Brendan Rodgers' side finished just two points behind eventual champions Manchester City.

During that season Suarez scored a remarkable 33 league goals in 31 games and, although he reflects on that campaign as "one of the best moments of my life", it is tinged with sadness due to the fact they missed out on the title.

"In the last year when I played there at Anfield I was so sad for the supporters," he told club media in 2020 after Liverpool finally won their first Premier League title. "I think one of the best moments of my life I lived in Liverpool [during] this season because I would shoot from 40 yards and I would score!

"I had so much confidence and the supporters, they helped me. I tried my best on the pitch and I miss a lot the support of the Liverpool fans on the pitch." He also addressed the fact some fans were upset with him after he celebrated scoring for Barcelona against his former club in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final tie in 2019.

Barcelona won the first leg 3-0, before Liverpool produced a stunning comeback in the second leg to win 4-3 on aggregate. They then went on to beat Tottenham 2-0 in the final and win the Champions League for the sixth time.

"I know some Liverpool supporters were angry with me because I celebrated a goal against Liverpool here in Camp Nou and for that I am so sad," Suarez added. "I accept that and I say that hopefully they understand my situation: we were playing at home and in the Champions League semi-final.

"I lived one of the best moments of my life there and I think the supporters didn't forget how my attitude was in the Liverpool shirt. Now hopefully they are so happy with the Premier League trophy this year.

"This is amazing for the supporters, for the players and for the so many people working inside Liverpool. So many people work there and for the last 30 years they didn't know how it felt for Liverpool to win the Premier League.

"They have a really good chance to enjoy this this time and I think they are so happy and they are excited for the moment that Jordan [Henderson] gets the trophy. I think they needed this moment, for the Liverpool supporters, for the Liverpool club, for the people, for the Scouse people. I am so happy for them."
