Jaw-dropping footage shows the moment a pair of alleged 'bill dodgers' have a romantic meal at a Thai restaurant before swiftly jumping into a taxi.

Bosses at The Copperstone in Middlesbrough have been left reeling after two customers visited the Linthorpe restaurant - and allegedly left without coughing up the cash. The venue said they had checked CCTV and could see the couple "running down the road and getting into a taxi" after tucking into their food. They have now posted a video of the pair online in the hope they can identify them. The Copperstone has not shared what the couple had to eat, or how much the bill came to.

However, a statement said the pair both enjoyed both food and drinks before they "forgot" to settle the bill for for their meal out, reports Teesside Live. They have tried to call them on the number provided in their booking, but to no avail, a statement on Facebook said.

It is only the latest in a string of similar incidents to hit the restaurant. Just last June, restaurant owner Craig told local reporters that a couple had gorged on £100 worth of food and drink before running off without paying.

Craig said that this is becoming a regular issue for hospitality venues, adding that he put the video on Facebook "to make other businesses aware of this happening and hope these people get recognised." The full post said: "We need some help, can everyone please share this post? These two lovely people came in for what looked like a nice romantic meal last night at the Copperstone in Middlesbrough. They ordered food and drinks as normal and obviously wanted to get home - only they forgot to pay us.

"We do have the booking name and telephone number but no one is answering. We will give them the opportunity to come in and pay and if they don't pay by tomorrow we will then pass this theft on to the relevant people.

"If you know them, please feel free to tag them and remind them. Hopefully, they were late getting somewhere and they forgot to pay as we can see them running down the road and getting into a taxi. The building and the road are full of CCTV."
