Cleaning products or pyjamas are the worst gifts to buy someone for Valentine's Day, a survey revealed.

People are most excited about simple gifts, with men and women revealing they would be excited to receive chocolate (34%), a gift card (33%) and flowers (29%).

One in four said they would be most excited to receive a personalised gift with their loved one’s picture. Women have said the worst gifts to be given on Valentine’s Day are cleaning products or appliances (37%), followed by pyjamas (6%).

Some 1,000 UK residents were asked the best and worst presents and 1 in 20 women revealed they have received cleaning products on Valentine’s Day. The majority of Brits (68%) spend £50 or less on their significant other on special occasions, new research from VistaPrint shows.

Brand Strategy Director at VistaPrint, Antoine Thieser, said: “Valentine’s Day is the perfect opportunity to gift something thoughtful to the person you love the most. By gifting something personal which includes a feature like a photo or an important memory, you’re creating a gift that will be appreciated and admired. And, it’s unlikely it’ll be re-sold or re-gifted!”
