Marvin Gaye's son was arrested for domestic violence and assault with a deadly weapon this week, it has been reported.

The son of the American soul singer and songwriter was arrested late Friday afternoon, a day after he allegedly pointed a gun at his wife, Wendy Gaye, and cousin following an argument at his Calabasas home.

Marvin Gaye III, 57, allegedly physically assaulted both women after an argument on Thursday 12 over a previous assault, TMZ have reported.

Cops arrived to the scene believing that Gaye was still inside the home.

But when they arrived to the scene shortly after 8pm, Gaye reportedly fled the scene with neighbours informing officers that he had left.

However, he turned himself into the sheriff's station the next day, around 5pm.

Reportedly, deputies also met with the relatives of the adopted son of Marvin Gaye and compiled an assault report, which identified the 57-year-old as a suspect.

He was booked on misdemeanour domestic violence and felony assault with a deadly weapon charges, but posted a $50,000 (£40,000) bond and released.

Reportedly, an emergency protective order was also issued to keep Gaye away from the home and family.

And when officers returned to the 57-year-old's home, they recovered two firearms.

Sources told TMZ that the marriage between Marvin and Wendy has been on the rocks, as the pair have had "ongoing issues for a while now".

Following the incident, the family's lawyer, Gil Arbel, said his clients are 'distraught' and 'intend to cooperate fully with law enforcement in pressing charges.'

Arbel has also requested that the public respect the privacy of the family while officers investigate the incident.

It currently remains unclear if anyone was injured.

However, Gaye's wife was seen being assisted by paramedics and police outside the home following the incident.
