The last three questions before potentially taking home the Who Wants to be a Millionaire jackpot are famously tough, but one winner was able to answer them before the multiple choice answers even appeared.

The ITV quiz show, which sees contestants take on multiple-choice questions based on general knowledge, was originally presented by Chris Tarrant, who fronted almost 600 episodes from 1998 to 2014. After a revival in 2018, the new series was hosted by Jeremy Clarkson.

Over its history, several contestants have managed to bag the eye-watering £1m jackpot prize - but it's not easy. For each question you get right, you can walk away with a sum of money - but it gets increasingly harder as you get closer to the big prize - so many opt to walk away so as not to lose everything they've won so far.

Back in September 2020, teacher Donald Fear became the sixth jackpot winner and the first for 14 years. Even more impressively, he did so only using one of his four lifelines, and answered the 15 questions asked by Clarkson in a jaw-dropping 20 minutes.

Speaking to The Mirror at the time, he said: "Of the 15 questions I knew probably 13 of them immediately before the options appeared. That was including the million pound question, the £500,000 and including the £250,000. It's very easy if you know the answers."

  3. £1million question: In 1718, which pirate died in battle off the coast of what is now North Carolina?
