Everybody's favourite foods are different, and what one person is obsessed with, another will despise.

And when it comes to taking advice about foods that are good for us, and foods that are best enjoyed in moderation, or avoided, nutritionists are a pretty good place to start. They advise others on matters of food and nutrition and their impacts on health, so if they refer to something as "gross", you should take heed.

Leanne Ely, who posts on TikTok under username @savingdinner, shared with her followers the "three gross foods you should never eat", and she explained her reasonings behind the choices.

"Three things as a nutritionist I'll never eat, and you shouldn't either", Leanne kicked her video off by saying. The first food on her hit list? Canned mushrooms.

"Did you know you can have, according to the FDA, 20 or more maggots per 100g of mushrooms?", she asked. "That includes the juice that they're in. Instead, let's go with fresh mushrooms, right? And we know what they grow in, but you can wash them, and you can dry them, and you can chop them up fresh. I promise no maggots."

Number two on her list of foods never to eat will be heartbreaking for seafood lovers, as it's shrimp. But why? "Well, no, I still love shrimp", she admitted, "but you know that vein that's on the back of them? That's not a vein. That's their intestinal tract. That's shrimp poop." She then advised people cooking them to pull it out but to "enjoy" eating them.

Number three on her list? Artificial vanilla. This is because it's "castorium", which is made of something in beaver's bums. "Who wants beaver butt in their vanilla ice cream?", she asked. Leanne then recommended using "pure vanilla extract", admitting it was a "little more expensive", but at least it wasn't from a beaver.

In the comments, someone admitted: "None of these things bother me", and another joked: "Maggots are good protein!"
