This is the frightening moment two armed thugs try to bash the door of a home down with a sledgehammer before firing a shotgun after being confronted.

The pair were captured on doorbell footage trying to break into the home on Christophers Court, Bradford in the early hours of January 11.

In the video, which can be seen above, a man with a motorcycle crash helmet on walks to the front door of the home while carrying a sledgehammer.

He then proceeds to aggressively bash the door with the weapon, and in total strikes the door eight times.

Behind him, a second man can be seen wielding a shotgun, and appears to be loading bullets into the weapon.

With the gun loaded, a woman can be heard shouting and the man armed with the sledgehammer suddenly stops trying to bash the door down.

In response to the woman shouting, the shotgun is fired in a direction away from the door.

The armed thugs then come together and much of what they say is inaudible, although it appears one of them states: "Why did you shoot?" The video then ends.

No one was injured in the incident, police said.

West Yorkshire Police are investigating the incident and confirmed on Sunday that one man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
