BBC newsreader Moira Stuart 'fell to the floor' while attending Angela Rippon's party last week.

The bash was held at the Hilton Hotel on Park Lane on Sunday night, but the 74-year-old newsreader suddenly fell ill and collapsed to the floor by the bar. Louise Minchin and Michael Buerk rushed to help her and an ambulance was called 'just in case' it was needed.

“It all happened very quickly and out of nowhere, Moira, who was standing at the bar, had fallen to the floor," an insider claimed. “She was looked after by Louise and Michael and an ambulance was called just in case." They said she suddenly 'took a funny turn' when the party was in full swing.

The onlooker added that the entire room was cleared in order to give her some space. Fortunately, Moira soon said she felt fine. Attendants at the celebrity bash were delighted to hear she was feeling alright but 'it was scary at the time' for them, according to the insider.

As reported by The Sun, the staff at the lavish hotel were 'quick' to help and call an ambulance to the scene. The party had the likes of I'm A Celebrity's Stanley Johnson and Strictly Come Dancing star Kai Widdrington in attendance. In pictures taken on the night, Moira seemed in high spirits as she posed with Angela.

The presenter wore a blue button-up top and black trousers for the event. The Mirror have contacted her reps for comment. Moira retired from the BBC in 2007 and went on to host on Classical FM. She has also appeared as a guest presenter on Countdown. From 2010 for nine years, she was the newsreader for The Chris Evans Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2.

Moira hosted her own music show on the radio station, which was broadcast every Sunday from 23:00 until midnight. The show featured "timeless classics". The radio star previously opened up about her past problem with alcohol and how she quit.

In 2017, she said she used to” enjoy drinking “as a child”, but that she quit the substance growing up. During an exchange with Chris Evans on the Radio 2 breakfast show about quitting sugar, she admitted suffering from severe headaches after drinking. “I developed problems with alcohol so I just left it alone,” she said.

“They weren’t hangovers... migraines - alcohol doesn’t do it for me, along with cheese and chocolate. I’m telling you, it’s been rougher than tough getting old.” Chris had remarked that Moira had never drank booze, prompting her to reply: “Oh I did. Oh Yes. I used to when I was a child. Yes, notorious at weddings - going round and drinking everybody’s.”

Chris joked: “Minesweeping is what it’s called. You were an early minesweeper.”
