Super-gran beats cancer for FIFTH time and is free from disease after 35 years
A woman who has battled cancer five times, and is finally free of the disease after 35 years, now feels empowered to live an amazing life.
Grandmother Natalie Yates-Bolton, 57, has run six marathons, three ultra-marathons and three triathlons and is ready for more gruelling challenges.
She said: “I am proof you can rebuild your life after treatment and come through it stronger, and more appreciative of life.”
Natalie has endured 11 operations, 30 sessions of chemotherapy and 55 rounds of radiotherapy to beat Hodgkin’s lymphoma twice and breast cancer three times.
Six years ago she was running out of treatment options when palbociclib, a targeted cancer drug, became available. Now she has been told that she is free of the disease.

Natalie has had five different kinds of cancer (PA)The senior lecturer in nursing at the University of Salford said: “So I feel very fortunate and I think it has really focused the way I live.”
Natalie was a 22-year-old student at Surrey University when she was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, where white blood cells called lymphocytes grow out of control.
She had radiotherapy but the lymphoma would return 15 years later. A tumour attached to her heart which was pressing on her oesophagus. She successfully completed her treatment in 2004.
But in 2009, at 43, Natalie was diagnosed with breast cancer. After surgery, chemo and radiotherapy, she received the all-clear, only for a cancerous lump in her side to appear less than a year later. In 2017 the cancer returned for a fifth time and needed treatment.
Natalie, of Chadderton, Gtr Manchester, is determined to enjoy spending time with husband, Gary, 66, and daughters Lucy, 33, and India, 29, and her two young grandchildren. Natalie, who works with health teams in other nations, sees herself as lucky to have successful outcomes five times.
She said thanks to the wonderful care at Christie NHS Trust in Manchester: “I feel enabled and empowered to live an amazing life and not be a victim of cancer.” Dr Sacha Howell, consultant oncologist at Christie, said: “She is an exceptional and inspirational lady who is leading a full and active life despite the cancer.”
