Combine Valentine's with Pancake Day this year with these romantic and fluffy treats from celebrity chef Martha Stewart.

Shrove Tuesday is one of the best days of the year, where adults across the nation can consume endless amounts of crepes doused in Nutella without fear or judgement. But, if you want to seriously impress your partner, have a go at making these heart-shaped pancakes that you can whip up in minutes.

You can get creative with toppings, and even use a little food colouring to turn your pancakes heart pink. These taste even better if served in bed, along with a dozen roses and a box of chocolates... Just saying.

Method

  • Heat a pan over medium-high heat. Whisk the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in a mixing bowl. Then add the egg, milk and two tablespoons of melted butter and whisk until fully combined. It's okay if the batter has a few small lumps in it.
  • Sprinkle a few drops of water onto your pan. If the water bounces and spatters - it's hot enough to use. With a paper towel, brush 1/2 teaspoon of butter onto the pan then wipe off any excess.
  • Fill a pastry bag fitted with a 1/4-inch plain round tip with batter. Twist the end of the bag and secure it with a rubber band. Then, pipe on heart shapes by drawing a V in the centre then rounding off the two edges.
  • When the pancakes have bubbles on top and are slightly dry around the edges, it's time to flip them over. Cook until golden on the bottom and repeat until you have a stack of delicious hearts ready to be smothered in treacle, sugar, or whatever toppings you prefer.
