Brits have been warned that a 600-mile Arctic blizzard will head straight towards the UK later this month - as forecasters confirm the likeness of snow.

It comes as new weather maps, from Ventusky, have revealed that a strong belt of snow could hit Britain, having first appeared in Greenland. According to the maps, some areas will be put under a snow dome between February 21 to February 24, with snow settling nearer to the end of the time frame.

The data shows that Scotland is the most likely to be painted white, as Glasgow will experience up to 3.5 inches, before the dump of snow reaches up to 10 inches on February 24. Inverness could also see up to 1 inch of snow from February 23 onwards. Other areas including Newcastle and Carlisle in Cumbria could be hit with a light amount of snow later in that week. The maps also showed that Swansea, Wales, will experience wintry conditions.

Meanwhile, WX charts suggest that Lancashire and parts of Yorkshire could also experience an extended white winter - indicated by purple patches on their illustrations. According to the charts, members of the public will face freezing temperatures when many areas are affected by a cold snap between February 24 and February 25. Forecasters explained that people should also prepare for fog and frost as the UK will witness another dramatic switch in weather conditions over the coming weeks. In its long-range forecast, the Met Office explained that during this period, Brits are likely to see "cloud and rain moving away from east or southeast Britain to give a brief more settled spell with patchy overnight fog or frost."

Later on in the month, the weather service predicted that the chances of snow could increase from February 26. They said: "During late February and early March, there is a higher than normal likelihood of northerly or easterly winds dominating, which would increase the chance of colder and drier than average conditions. Spells of milder and wetter weather are still likely to occur at times, especially in the south and southwest, with the potential for snow on the boundary between milder and colder air."
