Boyzone members Shane Lynch and Keith Duffy paid a surprise visit to fans after being spotted at a Chorley FC Football game amid talks the stars are closing in on a deal to represent the football club.

In a pre-game interview, Lynch and Duffy confirmed they had set their sights on Chorley FC football club with the ambition to "build the community". The two Irish pop stars were part of the hit 90s boy band alongside band members Ronan Keating, Stephen Gately, and Mikey Graham. The duo were all smiles as they posed for selfies with fans outside of Chorley's Victory Park before the match kicked off.

Shane and Keith were accompanied by former Westlife singer Brian McFadden who was clad in a black jumper and coat and brown beanie. Keith, 49, rocked up in a Chorley FC football tee, shades, and a flat cap while Shane, 47, wore a quilted jacket and cap.

Speaking to the BBC, Lynch opened up about the "exciting" opportunity to put their funds towards the team but revealed that there were still "lots of conversations to be had". Club officials hope that the collaboration will draw attention to the club.

The singer who was raised in Donaghmede, Ireland, said: "I fell in love with the place, they asked me if I would like to help out and I called the boys. We're just here to build on the community, on the real stars who are on the pitch… and it's very, very exciting."

Keith Duffy shared: "We're from a working-class background in the north side of Dublin and it's all about family, it's all about community - and coming here today, it's like being home. Everybody's been very welcoming, there's like a family thing going on here and hopefully we're going to be the new adopted sons.

McFadden added: "I love the romance of it, I love the idea of getting involved in the club, especially a club like Chorley that belongs to the community." He also revealed a deal is near and said: “It’s pretty close. I’ve just been talking about coming to the next home game with my family so you’ll probably see quite a lot of us. We’re in."

Earlier this week, Tom Clarke, the club's chief operating officer revealed that Shane had attended some of the club's matches, and was impressed by their team's performance. After witnessing their team in action, Shane voiced his interest in having an active role within the club.

Clarke told BBC Radio Lancashire on Thursday: “He loved what we were doing and the kind of atmosphere that we’ve got going on with the people at the club. It would be wonderful if they were to come in and have an active role within the club, and ultimately that's got to be what our goal is set for, as part of those negotiations."
