Ryan Reynolds showed his class in the aftermath of Wrexham's shock defeat to Bradford City on Saturday.

The Red Dragons' League Two promotion hopes suffered a blow at The Racecourse Ground with the Bantams claiming a 1-0 win. Andy Cook struck in the 90th minute to send Phil Parkinson's side to a third successive defeat, falling to fifth in the table, two points adrift of the automatic promotion places.

Wrexham dominated the possession battle and had 17 efforts on goal but they could not break down a stubborn Bradford defence as their attacking woes continued, scoring just once in their past three league games.

Wrexham's Hollywood owners Reynolds and Rob McElhenney were watching from afar as their team's downward spiral continued, but Deadpool star Reynolds showed no bitterness after the final whistle. In response to Bradford's celebratory post on X, Reynolds replied: "The entire Bradford City squad played with so much heart today. Congrats."

Reynolds went on to issue a vote of confidence in the Wrexham players despite their poor form. The 47-year-old added: "We have all the tools. Just need to put it together. I love this squad."

Wrexham do have games in hand on their promotion rivals, but their recent form is sure to be very concerning for manager Parkinson. However, he believes his players could not be faulted for their efforts in the defeat to the 14th-place Bantams on Saturday.

"It hurts. We dominated the game, really," he told the club's YouTube channel. Particularly in the first half, we were excellent. We did everything we set out to against their 3-4-3 system. We moved the ball well and got into some good positions, we just couldn't find the moment when the way we played justified us coming in a goal or two ahead.

"Second half, I thought we were still the better team, the team that looked most like scoring but we didn't produce the real quality from crossing or getting into better positions when the ball came into the box.

"The lads have given everything today. We know we're in a period where it is not going our way, but the lads have given us absolutely everything. We just couldn't find the moment to unlock the door to lift everybody, but it certainly wasn't through a lack of effort today. We'd have loved to have won the game and I think we deserved to, and one moment at the end has proved decisive."

Wrexham are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to relegation-threatened Sutton United. Big games against Notts County and MK Dons follow in what could be a pivotal period for the North Wales side to keep their automatic promotion hopes alive.
