Klopp hails Liverpool stars for overcoming "strange circumstances" vs Burnley
Jurgen Klopp was delighted his Liverpool side were able to overcome “strange circumstances” to secure a 3-1 victory against Burnley.
The Reds reclaimed top spot in the Premier League with Saturday’s success at Anfield. Diogo Jota gave Liverpool the lead, only for Dara O’Shea level, before second-half strikes from Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez eventually secured victory for the Reds.
Things didn't all go to plan for Klopp’s side, who lost Joe Gomez and Alisson to illness before kick-off, while Trent Alexander-Arnold was taken off at half-time injured.
Burnley also gave Liverpool plenty of problems. Speaking after the game, Klopp was full of praise for his side for overcoming what was a challenging game, while he was also left impressed by the opposition.
Klopp said: "I can really imagine how Vincent Kompany is feeling right now because they did a lot of good stuff and made it really uncomfortable for us. But in general, besides the first 15 minutes, when we were in a rush and we played too early, they had counter-attacks and situations and that was a problem. Then we calmed it down and scored wonderful goals.
Chelsea complete record-breaking Enzo Fernandez transfer after deadline day rush"We knew at half-time what we had to do. We were in control but of course we had to change Trent Alexander-Arnold and are short on defenders. Curtis Jones did incredibly well, like Harvey Elliott did when he came on.
"It was a difficult game with strange circumstances. It's just with all the things that happened with players out, the goalkeeper stepping aside, it was the perfect afternoon - besides the Trent thing obviously."

Liverpool’s latest win leaves them top of the Premier League with a two-point advantage over nearest challengers Manchester City, albeit having played one game more. Klopp was asked about the fight for this season’s crown and claims that things can change within a matter of weeks.
"I know it's every week," he added. "You add in Tottenham - who got a big win for them today. Villa play tomorrow. They are all in the mix and Arsenal obviously.
“Two weeks ago we had the perfect squad situation. Two weeks later we are short in each area. Like, wow. It all can happen. We all need luck to get through it when you don't have that, you have to fight through it.”
He added: "It's not only the three points [vs Burnley]. You cannot have momentum guaranteed all the time. Nine days ago we played incredible against Chelsea then we lost to Arsenal. It's always a different challenge. If it's not clicking straight away, fight through it. It was really tough today but the boys fought through and got three points."
