A woman who had been waiting 20 years for her dream trip to the Scottish Highlands was left gutted when she ended up in Edinburgh instead of the stunning countryside.

Many Brits have dreamed of hopping on the luxury trains, complete with private rooms and cosy beds, to travel to the breathtaking scenery of Northern Scotland. Sadly, this dream didn't come true for a recent passenger who thought she'd wake up to lush greenery and towering peaks, but instead found herself in the city centre of Edinburgh.

Mandy, also known as 'Your TikTok Mum', had planned to travel from Newcastle, where she lives, to Fort William on the Caledonian Sleeper train. However, due to heavy rain and flooding, her journey and those of other passengers were cut short.

She shared her disappointment on TikTok, explaining that passengers were woken up early at 5am and told they would have to get off in Edinburgh, much to their dismay, according to EdinburghLive. Passengers then had to find another way to get to Fort William or wait for a later train once the flooding had gone down.

Mandy shared her train travel woes, saying: "When I bought the Sleeper for Fort William last night, I did not expect to be getting off in Edinburgh this morning. Of course, the flooding can't be helped but they have to understand how stressful this is." She also mentioned: "This is a trip that I've waited to take for 20 years and I'm just a bit sad right now."

She explained the financial side of things too and added: "I have had a text message this morning to say that the partial refund is automatic and they'll be receiving a 50 per cent refund. This means that the sleeper experience still cost me £180 but I will learn from this experience just because something is expensive doesn't mean it's good."

Talking about her expectations, she said: "I had this romantic idea of falling asleep in England and waking up in the Highlands." But the reality was different: "There's no sleeping on the Sleeper."

After her journey took an unexpected turn, Mandy reassured her followers who were concerned about her: "I'm safe in Fort William, loving the view from my hotel room." Caledonian Sleeaper describes Fort William as the "outdoor capital of the UK" with "the most spectacular scenery in the world, between Loch Linnhe and the dramatic lines carved out by the Nevis Range."

They also promote the area, saying: "It offers unrivalled skiing, walking and sporting opportunities for all the family. For those who enjoy an extreme challenge, Ben Nevis provides an unforgettable climb, with the famous peak as challenging in the summer as it is when snow and ice caps it in the winter."

A spokesperson from Caledonian Sleeper apologised about Ms Charlton's disrupted journey while explaining it to the Daily Star: "Unfortunately, the changing adverse weather led to closures across the rail network in Scotland due to flooding which subsequently affected our operations. We are truly sorry that Ms Charlton's journey was not as expected and we are in direct communication to discuss it."
