Liverpool star's wife caused havoc by phoning boss after 'adult entertainment'
Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has revealed the wife of one of his former teammates once caused a rift between the squad and her husband after calling the manager to complain about some "adult entertainment" during a pre-season party.
Murphy was speaking after Belle Silva, the wife of Chelsea defender Thiago, appeared to call for Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino to be sacked. After Chelsea's 4-2 defeat against Wolves, she wrote on social media: "It's time to change. If you wait any longer it will be too late."
She has since apologised for her "personal outburst as a passionate Chelsea fan", while Pochettino revealed Thiago had come to see him to talk about the post. And when asked about the situation on talkSPORT, Murphy reflected on the impact a similar incident had when he was at Liverpool.
"I find it bizarre that you would get yourself in that situation where a wife, partner, girlfriend, mother, brother or whoever starts tweeting about your career and the politics at the club and who should do what," Murphy said.
"It's beyond my comprehension because it wouldn't happen on my watch and if it did it would only happen once. The irony is that Thiago Silva can say what he wants, he's had a wonderful career and he's entitled to come out and say what he wants to say because he's near the end of his career anyway.

"There's no real repercussions. I remember at Liverpool, we had a little party with all the new players in pre-season and let's just say we had some adult entertainment. One of the players' wives decided to phone the manager and tell him how disgusted she was that we'd put her husband in this situation.
"He alienated himself somewhat because the lads quickly went, 'What are you doing?' That would happen the same with social media. If Thiago Silva was 25 and planning a long career at Chelsea it would be more relevant because what's next?

"If a player's missus starts busying herself it causes a problem for the player, that's where I'm going with it. He was an idiot anyway the fella involved, he wasn't a popular boy.
"The same person's wife decided on a particular night out with partners to tell another Liverpool player that his defending had been absolutely atrocious and he needed to sort his off the field antics out. I'm talking about a Liverpool legend as well."
