Barry Keoghan has revealed he was banned from a cinema in his home town - and has mocked the cinema for their actions.

The 31-year-old BAFTA nominee hails from Dublin and his love for film began at a young age. The Saltburn actor was barred from a branch of Cineworld in the Irish capital - and he has mocked the decision by the cinema bosses.

While Barry is currently enjoying a wave of praise for his role as Oliver Quick in the psychological thriller, he previously won an Oscar nomination for his role as Dominic Kearney in 2022’s The Banshees of Inisherin. Barry has now opened up about his past run in with cinema owners.

He was a guest on the YouTube series Hot Ones where he told host Sean Evans all about being kicked out of the cinema. He explained: “[I was banned] for being a brat, basically. Running in and trying to watch movies, honestly. [They were] trying to stop a kid from watching movies.”

Referencing his own success, he joked: “You know, it could be a future Oscar nominee there, just saying. And then you took him away from films.” And reflecting more on the incident, he added: “Yeah I was young and trying to get in and the cinema was such a romantic place to me and I was only 14.”

Saltburn has caused controversy for the erotic scenes that Barry is involved in - with his character performing a sex act on a woman who is menstruating and he drinks the bath water of another character who ejaculated in the bath. Following the frenzy from the scene, Suzie Davies, the production designer for the film, has finally spilled the beans about what actor Barry was actually slurping up. She revealed they mixed 'yogurt and a bit of milk and some water' to get the consistency just right.

The designer also shared that Barry did the take four times, each with a unique slurp, saying: "He did it four times and really went for it. Every one he did was a different kind of slurp." Meanwhile, Barry’s co-star Jacob Elordi, who plays Felix Catton, admits he was excited to watch Barry drink the bathwater his character had been in. He told the Stream Wars podcast: "I was just really excited when I read that scene because you don't really see things like that in mainstream movies a lot of the time.

"So it's just great that Emerald was allowed to kind of push those boundaries and expose people like that." Discussing the reaction from a crowd after attending a screening in Brisbane, Jacob added: "It was unbelievable because everybody was engaged and sort of gasping at the screen and yelling at the screen and everything like that. And I haven’t been in a movie like that in a really, really long time."
