Red Bull's chief technical officer Adrian Newey has reportedly decided to remain with the team - despite the uncertainty surrounding the future of team principal Christian Horner.

Horner has been accused of inappropriate behaviour by a female employee, sparking an investigation by Red Bull into the allegations. The 50-year-old is set to attend a meeting on Friday where he will face questions from an external investigator.

The investigator will then present their findings and recommendations to Red Bull next week, with the team hoping they can resolve the matter ahead of their season launch event which is scheduled to take place on February 15. Horner denies the allegations.

There have been reports claiming that Horner and Newey, who have worked closely together at Red Bull for almost 20 years, have a clause in their contracts that means if one of them leaves them then the other can follow suit.

As a result, there has been speculation that Newey could quit if Horner is ousted as a result of the allegations. However, according to German outlet F1 insider, Newey has 'told Red Bull that he will remain loyal' even if Horner departs.

Newey has previously spoken of his interest in joining Ferrari, who recently announced that seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton will be joining them next year. However, the 65-year-old stated last year that it was unlikely he would leave Red Bull anytime soon.

"I've had discussions with Ferrari in the past. I've been very tempted because it's such a legendary brand," he told Sky Italy. "The time that was most tempting would have been around 1993 and 1997 when I moved from Williams to McLaren.

"That was a very tough choice. At the time, my kids were young and I didn't know how they would settle in an Italian school. If I was to move to a team that was based in Italy, I would have to move to Italy with the family.

"Now at Red Bull, I have been involved with more or less since the start, moving teams is always a huge workload to re-establish yourself and get the working practices, so honestly, if I was 20 years younger, maybe."

Newey reportedly signed a new contract with Red Bull last season and, while a spokesperson for the team told Mirror Sport they were "not in a position to talk about contracts", they did state that "Adrian will be with us for a long while."
