A hopeful couple who appeared on A Place in the Sun thought they had found their dream home, but soon realised it wasn't what it seemed.

The popular Channel 4 show, hosted by Lee Juggernauth on Tuesday, saw Greg and Reda searching for a foreign property with a maximum budget of £100,000. The duo were keen on a three-bedroom Costa Blanca house that had sweeping Spanish countryside views and ample room for a vineyard.

Things went well, and they quickly fell for the third property. This Albaida-based house boasted three bedrooms and was surrounded by four acres of land. Priced at £85,470, the couple bought it for £83,760 and looked forward to enjoying a sun-soaked life.

However, things took a sharp turn after they found out that their amazing new Spanish home was "too good to be true". After the purchase, as they consulted local authorities about adding a swimming pool, a shocking revelation came to light. Their dream home was located on "industrial" land. And so, their perfect sun-lit life remained a distant dream.

The couple shared: "So our solicitor started doing some enquiries about the pool that had been half built on the property. In the process of speaking to the local town hall about this, it was discovered that the land on which the property sat was categorised as 'industrial' which meant that at any time the council could build a road through it, even if a few years later. We couldn't take that risk."

Choosing not to be deterred, the couple returned for another search after the episode was filmed. Greg said: "We went back twice to Spain in a month and then in January 2022, we went out to view a property we'd seen online in Biar, a village 20 minutes from Elche, southeast of Alicante."

"We were super-excited to see it as it again had everything the views, three bedrooms, a pool, outbuildings, five acres of land including olive and almond trees"

Eventually, they secured their dream property for £112,000, ready to move to Spain and start their new life. Despite their initial disappointment featured on A Place in the Sun, the couple thoroughly enjoyed the process.

Greg revealed: "It was great fun being with Lee and the TV crew. We got to see some new areas and it gave us a real understanding of what we wanted and how to buy it."
