Aldi shoppers horrified as violent brawl breaks out in front of young children

A violent mass brawl was captured on video after it broke out in front of horrified families outside an Aldi store.

The incident kicked off at around 1pm last Saturday outside the store in Lye, West Midlands. Tensions flared between two shoppers as the first punches were thrown before another person got involved. In the video, Aldi staff are heard repeatedly telling a man to leave before a woman appears to step towards a security guard and slap him in the face - knocking his glasses off - before she stumbles back into a pram.

Aldi staff were finally able to pull the fighters apart after a few moments of madness as other people went about their shopping. It is unknown what sparked the violent scenes, which included a number of kicks and punches. The video ends with staff telling people to “calm down”.

The video has so far garnered more than 170,000 views. The Mirror has contacted West Midlands Police and Aldi for comment on the incident.

It comes as last month Aldi staff in some stores were reportedly told not to serve customers if they refused to have their bags searched at the tills. One shop worker told back in August how the bag searching policy had been introduced into their store, with the checks being carried out by both security guards and Aldi staff.

They said: "We are asking they allow us to look in the bags to see if they are empty. We have been asking to look in the bags to make sure none of our items are in there”.

The Aldi worker then noted those who do not comply with the bag checks could be refused the sale - although they added that this had not occurred in their particular store. The discount worker also said walking out of the store could also be stopped by security if they are suspected of theft.

Aldi told The Mirror last year it was not a "national policy" and said it is down to each individual store and like other retailers, bag checks are being carried out by Aldi staff where needed. It also noted that it was only happening in a small number of stores and was being used as a temporary measure. The bag check policy is not new, and reports of Aldi stores having the measures have been around since May 2023.
