Rumours are once again circulating that a Nintendo Direct is on the way, and word is that it is set to take place very soon.

Death, Taxes, and Nintendo Direct rumours are the three absolutes in this world, and now that we're in February, speculation over when Nintendo's next showcase is upon us. Considering we're in what seems to be the year the Nintendo Switch finally gets a successor, it's no surprise that many are eager to find out if and when the Nintendo Switch 2 will be announced, and what games the company has in the works. While we don't expect a Switch successor to be announced in a Nintendo Direct event, it's likely will see what games are being worked on.

Universo Nintendo posted an article this week stating that their sources have revealed that we can expect the February 2024 Nintendo Direct to drop on Thursday, February 15. While the exact date wasn't mentioned, insider NateTheHate also claimed on Twitter that they've heard that a direct is happening during this time frame.

In the right direction

It doesn't take a super-connected leaker to tell you that a Nintendo Direct is on the way. Since the Nintendo Switch launched, the company has settled into a February, June, and September schedule for its Nintendo Directs barring 2018; where the first one happened in the first week of March (with a Nintendo Direct mini in January) and in 2020, due to covid. I could've told you we'd get a February 2024 Nintendo Direct last year.

However, I'm inclined to believe these rumours are correct considering the leakers in question specifically referenced a date, most people (myself included) figured a Nintendo Direct would be coming this week, considering one has taken place in the second week of February for the past couple of years.

As for what I'm expecting, we'll undoubtedly get new info on Princess Peach Showtime, Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door remake and Luigi's Mansion 2 HD. As for surprises, last February's direct featured the announcement and release of Metroid Prime Remastered, so I'm holding out hope Metroid Prime 2 will follow suit the year (hopefully 3 comes alongside it too). But considering it's likely to be one of the last Nintendo Directs of the Nintendo Switch era, I wouldn't expect anything too mindblowing.
