A woman live-streamed herself torturing and killing a pet cat before later murdering a man and dumping his body in a river, a court heard.

Scarlet Blake copied scenes from Netflix documentary ‘Don’t F*** with Cats’ when she slaughtered the stolen feline, it is claimed. On the live-stream, the 25-year-old asked a friend: “I wonder where I learn how to do this to a person?”, it is alleged. Weeks later she allegedly killed BMW worker Jorge Martin Carreno after he left a bar following a night out with colleagues in Oxford.

Blake, wearing a combat jacket, was in the city in the early hours of the morning “looking for a victim”, jurors were told. She lured Jorge to parkland near the University of Oxford before hitting him over the head, prosecutors said. Oxford crown court heard the 30-year-old Spanish national’s body was found in the River Cherwell the following day. Blake, who lives in the city, denies murder.

Prosecutor Alison Morgan KC said she had a “fixation with violence and knowing what it would feel like to kill someone”. Jurors were told the killings began in March 2021 with the slaughter of a black cat. Miss Morgan said Blake used a cat basket and cat food to lure the animal, which belonged to neighbours, to her home.

She had already bought scalpels, surgical gloves and mounted a camera on a tripod to record the killing, it is claimed. Jurors were told the “grotesque” unedited 20-minute long video was too disturbing to be shown in court. But Miss Morgan showed them a still image of a grinning Blake smiling to the camera while holding the cat.

Blake was allegedly heard saying on the video: “Here we go my little friend … I can’t wait to put you through the blender.” Miss Morgan told the court how the defendant put the cat in a ligature before cutting her with a scalpel. The feline was still alive as Blake sliced open her chest, exposing the animal’s internal organs, it is claimed. She then allegedly put the cat in a blender as the New Order hit ‘True Faith’ played in the background.

Miss Morgan said the song was important as it was used by killer Luka Magnotta in the 2019 Netflix hit ‘Don’t F*** with Cats’. She told jurors the Canadian filmed himself killing kittens through asphyxiation in a vacuum bag. "The documentary progresses on to show how that person goes from killing kittens to murdering a human being,” she added. "He posted an eleven-minute video carrying out that killing, with the music ‘True Faith’ by New Order playing in the background.”

Jurors were told Blake and a viewer referred to the documentary during the cat killing video, which was live-streamed on Signal. “She had shown herself in those acts in March to be cruel and to have enjoyed inflicting harm,” said Miss Morgan. Four months later Jorge “had the great misfortune” of being approached by Blake in the early hours of the morning, it is claimed.

The prosecutor said the keen rock climber and Blake, who was wearing a face mask and back pack, had never met before. “This was predatory behaviour,” she said. “She was touring around the centre of Oxford looking for a vulnerable person. The defendant was someone who, unbeknown to him, had a fixation with causing harm and death.

“Mr Carreno did not die because of a terrible accident or because he took his own life. He died because he met a person who had a fixation with violence and with knowing what it would be like to kill someone. The defendant targeted Mr Carreno and took him to Parson’s Pleasure, where she killed him.”

Miss Morgan said Blake had an “extreme interest in death and harm”. She added: “This was an interest that went beyond fantasy. She got sexual gratification from the thought of violence and death. The most obvious manifestation of her extreme interest in violence and harm was her conduct towards the animal.” The trial continues.
