Cat 'thrown away like rubbish' had leg injuries so bad limb had to be cut off

A poor black cat lost a a leg after a ride in a rubbish truck that took him 55 miles from London to Milton Keynes.

The RSPCA team christened the adventurous feline Stig of the Dump but sadly they couldn't save his leg. Stig's exact home in one of London's 32 boroughs remains a mystery but an injury on his leg meant it had to be swiftly removed. The rescuers think the poor mite either hopped into the truck or was cruelly abandoned there.

As the RSPCA said in a Facebook post: "Unfortunately there is no way of knowing which Borough he came from, or even if he was discarded like a piece of rubbish." Once he was found, the animal welfare charity was straight to the scene to bring Stig to safety.

The severe state of Stig's leg meant it required immediate amputation. As the RSPCA volunteers posted: "Whether this injury was a result of being in a vehicle capable of crushing items to 90% of their original size, or the very reason he was dumped, we will never know."

However, what matters most, as per the organisation, is that: "What is important is that he is now safe and receiving the medical attention he deserves." They are also none the wiser about who Stig's previous owners were due to the lack of a microchip and distinct markings.

The RSPCA warns: "It's more important than ever you ensure your cats are microchipped - changes in the law make it compulsory for all cats to be microchipped from 10 June 2024."
